Islanders Draft Recap

Michael Fisher - D - 3rd Round 87th Overall

He already has NHL size and is a great skater, but comes as a boom or bust pick, which the Isles are fine with in the third round. He was drafted out of high school hockey as a stud offensive dman, but does have all the tools to be a top NHL defender. The real question is whether or not he can continue to dominate as he moves up to higher levels.

Jeremy Langlois - D - 4th Round 98th Overall

He is another boom or bust defender, but worth the risk in the fourth round. Langlois is an all offensive defender, who will have to round out his defensive game to make it in the NHL. If his offense continues to flourish, he can be a great late round pick.

Dmitri Ovchinnikov - LW - 4th Round 112th Overall

He was selected in the 2020 draft, however thrown back into the draft pool with the league's contraction. He's an incredibly quick skater with great vision and an even better shot. Has the ability to be a dangerous goal-scorer at the higher levels. The Isles considered him with their final contraction pick, which they wound up trading, so a nice grab in this spot.

Cole Spicer - LW - 4th Round 112th Overall

While Spicer isn’t the biggest forward, his two-way game stands out, as he plays a responsible defensive game. Offensively, he makes a living in high-danger areas. Spicer has the makeup of a typical middle- or bottom-six forward in today’s NHL. He works hard, gets to high-danger areas, and has some offensive upside because of his shot. He likely projects as a third-line winger or center in the NHL.

Arshdeep Bains - LW - 7th Round 181st Overall

He is an undrafted forward signed by the NHL's Canucks and strong value in the 7th round. The reigning WHL scoring champ is a skilled forward with an intriguing combination of size and offensive potential. He carries the potential to translate into a well-versed bottom-six contributor.

Love the Langlois pick, was super happy to get him SHL. Think he has great upside for a later round pick
