Ideas how to continue, if at all

Post by Pete »

Thinking we could use a topic to collect some ideas how to continue if Juliet still wants and there are enough GMs willing to make this an active league again.

In my opinion, filling up the free positions and run the league as normal wont work but as I indicated in the chat this could be the chance to start something new/different. Something like this could be fun:

- 16 teams
- hard salary cap /floor
- no more RFAs, everyone is UFA after the regular entry level contract
- NHL rerates

Im up for new ideas not sure i like the rfa thing as that will make it very hard for a rebuilding team. One thing i think we have to keep is salary retention, that is something that i thought was always good in this league.

Going to gracefully bow out, Ive had less time than before to spend on sim stuff.

I will still help Jules where i can, any reboot league will be possible to set up (webpage, ratings etc), just reach out when you need it.

See the rest of you in our other leagues, cheers.

Just throwing some ideas around, maybe we will find something that works

Unfortunately I think 16 is too optimistic, 12 might be the right amount at this point with the way it is going.

But that changes what the GVFHL is and will just create a bunch of stacked super teams.

Tough to see this league come to an end, it was a great 8 years. Pete you did an amazing job building this league and Juliet thank you for taking it over and keeping it going so well.

I'm in the same boat as Chris in terms of time. I was single when I joined the league in 2015, now I'm married with 3 kids and life is so busy and different now. I would love to stay a part of the GVFHL even if it was a 24 team league. But being a 16 or 12 team league or whatever it may become just won't be the same. I'll still be kicking around to see what becomes of it, if anything. But I won't have the same passion if it's starting a new GVFHL 2.0 with new teams.

well, I've had no luck. I can continue spreading word through a few other yahoo leagues once they open. But do we continue offseason as usual or throw in the towel?

Unfortunately it appears the towel has been thrown at this point. I don’t see enough GM’s left to continue the GVFHL anywhere close to its current form.

The commish will have the final say but unless something big happens quickly, the league looks to be done. 😢

Me too. I’m really surprised it’s been hard to get GM’s. This league used to be very popular. I personally think it can be turned around. We could always copy the CDNHL/SHL structure and rules with the 45M Cap and pro-rate player contracts. That could attract more GM’s. I’ve always been a fan of how Chris runs that league.
